About PEI

WHEN  MAKING PLANS FOR MARATHON WEEKEND, PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS!  THEY ARE WHAT MAKE THIS EVENT SO GREAT!

Prince Edward Island has proven to be a great place for a marathon. It’s a great place, period. A stunning little island cradled in the waves of the Gulf of St. Lawrence that combines historic charm with a modern sensibility. So if you’re planning to participate, you’re likely to enjoy your pre- and post-marathon time as much as the event itself. And if you’re traveling with friends or family who aren’t runners, not to worry. There is plenty for them to enjoy while you’re occupied with the marathon.
The Government of Prince Edward Island maintains a web site to assist visitors who plan to visit the Island. Tourism PEI www.tourismpei.com is a great resource for anyone who is coming “from away” for the Prince Edward Island Marathon. The start of the Marathon is in beautiful Prince Edward Island National Park, which graces over 40 kilometres of the island’s north shore. Visit the Parks Canada website www.parkscanada.gc.ca/pei for more information about the park and its majestic landscape.
The City of Charlottetown Charlottetown, the capital of Prince Edward Island is Canada’s Birthplace. It was specifically here — at the Province House National Historic Site www.parkscanada.gc.ca/provincehouse, the finish line for the Marathon — that the founding fathers gathered for the Charlottetown Conference. The discussions led to the union of all British North America into one country, which eventually became Canada. Prince Edward Island recently celebrated 150 years since the Fathers of Confederation met in Charlottetown to commence these discussions.
Visit the official City of Charlottetown website www.city.charlottetown.pe.ca as well as Visit Charlottetown www.visitcharlottetown.com, which are key planning tools for anyone making a visit to the city.
